Baron Thomas of Tenby

Tiny tourneys

Baron Thomas founded our tradition of Tiny Tourneys at Populace in the Park or Sunday practice. Baron Avery and Baroness Gwenneth are delighted to continue it! If you are interested in running a tourney, please contact the B&B. These tourneys can be in any area and are not restricted to fighting.

Past Tiny Tourneys

A chivalric tourney was held on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Populace in the Park, organized by Sir Gaston de Clermont. Sir Gaston taught a class on period sword-and-buckler fighting style, then those who were armored participated in a bearpit tourney for over an hour. Sir Ysafael emerged the victor for the evening with great skill, using many of the techniques explained in the class. Sir Gaston presented him with the famous "singing axe" as well as a book on this style of combat. Sir Gaston also offered word-fame for Jonas who fought very well, and Baron Thomas presented him with a lion banner.

A double-header tourney—a Dessert Tourney organized by Lord Goldweard, and a Rapier Tourney organized by Lord Ceallach—was held at Populace in the Park, on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. The Baron's Choice was a pound cake made by Simone de Medici, and the popular vote awarded the Golden Spatula to Lucia Digioia for a "formed fish" apple pie. Nine fighters vied for the corresponding award, the Aluminum Foil, which was won by Lord Ceallach in the adult division and Steele in the youth division.

A local archery tourney was held on Sunday, September 9th, 2007, at the Sunday archery practice site, organized by Lord Jason and marshalled by Dante. Lady Anna served as the list mistress. The Baron honored the following victors with prizes in a short court: longbow–Kansuke; youth–Tiffany Ruriksdottir; crossbow–Jason of Rosaria. He also honored Lord Charles for shooting a perfect score in one of the rounds. Everyone shot very well.

An Arts & Sciences Tiny Tourney was held on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at Populace in the Park, hosted by Signora Elisabetta Morosini. Seven entries plus two displays (non-competing entries) were received, ranging from arrows and armor to inkle weaving to a 10th century bed. There was a tie for populace favorite; both Sir Gaston (flute, rebec, and bench) and Lady Catalina (Ottoman Turkish costume) were honored for their fine work. Aed was recognized for his fine riddle poem, and Lady Coblaith was thanked for showing us something new (a book chemise, which is a fancy book cover).

A chivalric tiny tourney was held on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Populace in the Park—a bearpit tourney organized by Lord Uther. Sir Gaston was the victor and won the prizes. He gave one of these prizes (a Thor's hammer) to Sam the Warrior, whose energy on the field was truly inspirational. Lady Rhiannon was list mistress; the Baronial Guard attended, and Lady Catalina heralded the court.

A Rapier Tourney was held Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Populace in the Park, sponsored by Lord Ceallach mac Donal. Lady Emeline was the victor! Don Tivar was also honored for the best persona fight, and Margaret was honored for the best youthful fight.

A Chivalric Tourney was held Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at Populace in the Park, sponsored by Lady Rhiannon. The tourney featured alternate rounds with polearm vs. bastard sword, a "round on the ground", and a melee final. Though the chilly winds did blow, there was a large turnout. Centurian Ysfael was the undefeated victor of the evening!

On Tuesday, October 3, 2006, the Baron challenged all rapier fighters to test their mettle against his steel (while protected by the Baronial Guard)! Sixteen fighters took the field. The victors were the officers of the Guard: Baroness Claire, Lord Alfred, and Lord Rurik.

An A&S Tiny Tourney was held at the Wells Branch Demo on Saturday, September 16, 2006. Several fine artisans competed or displayed their work. Aerin MacConacher was honored for her skills.

The winners were Tiffany Briscoe, shooting open bow on the children’s range with 65 points, Fergus D’Onray, shooting open bow on the adults’ range with 69 points, and Lord Jason of Rosaria, shooting crossbow with 54 points.

A Youth Rapier Tourney was held Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at Populace in the Park, sponsored by Lord Rurik. Youth fighters fought a Swiss five, while non-youths fought off-hand with cloak. Haakon was the winner of the youth portion of the list, while Don Doré won the adult portion.

A Youth Boffer Tourney was held May 23, 2006 at Populace in the Park, sponsored by Sir Gideon. Ambrosio won the age 10 and up division, Lochlan won the under-10 division, and Zachary won the snowball mêlée.

A Rapier Tourney was begun for April 18, 2006, at Populace in the Park, but was called for lightning and possible severe weather partway through. It resumed April 25. The format was round robin. Don Pieter from Bjornsborg was the victor.
