Unto the Populace of Bryn Gwlad:

We, Mistress Gwenneth Bowynne of Glamorgan and Don Avery Shaw, would like to offer our services in the capacity of the next Baron and Baroness of this great Barony of Bryn Gwlad.

Between us, we have more than 40 years of experience in the Society. We have held offices at local, regional, and kingdom level, in several different fields. We have both autocratted events. We are active on both kingdom and local levels, and have been so continuously throughout our SCA careers. We are active in several of the various communities within the barony.

We believe that Bryn Gwlad has a great deal of potential that is not being fully realized and would like to help develop it. As the Barony has a large number of dynamic leaders, we feel that the role of the Baron and Baroness is not to determine the Barony’s course by ourselves, but to help provide a stable environment in which the individual leaders have the support and backing to achieve their visions, without overburdening the Barony with too many competing projects. We want all members of the Barony to feel that they are a welcome and vital part of the group and that their input and efforts are appreciated.

As with all people, we have strengths and weaknesses, but we believe that as a couple, we balance each other well. Avery’s background in the theater, particularly as a stage manager, gives him experience both with the pageantry aspects of the role of local nobility and with mediating disputes between strong personality types. Gwenneth’s experience as a structural engineer testifies to her organizational abilities and tendency to approach problems in a logical, objective manner.

We would welcome the opportunity to serve in this manner, and we would be happy to discuss any issues or concerns you may have.
