With our distinctive coats we are highly visible within the Barony of Bryn Gwlad as well as recognized throughout the Kingdom of Ansteorra. As a unit we have processed with our Landed Nobles in Courts all over Ansteorra, as well as at Gulf Wars. Like most activities in the SCA, the Guard will take up as much of your time as you wish to put into it, and then we will ask for more.

The most visible of our duties is that of Ceremonies in Court. But if you look around the Barony you will find many of our members serving the barony and the kingdom in many other capacities such as officers, stewards, marshals, project leaders and cooks. If you look around a Bryn Gwlad event and do not see a large number of Guardsmen visibly on duty, it is probably because they are off performing a necessary job. Though it is encouraged that members take part in combat related activities this is not required for membership despite our military aspects.

Membership in the Baronial Guard is not exclusive; several of our members also serve in the Baronial War Company or in other personal Households. A lot has been said about service, but this does not mean that the Baronial Guard is all work and no play! We can be a very social group. Families are welcome. Sitting down to a fine meal together or tossing a few dice in a tavern are some of our favorite pastimes.
