Being the Austin, TX chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism
The Barony of Bryn Gwlad is the Austin, Texas branch of the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA) and is a part of the Kingdom of Ansteorra, which covers Texas and Oklahoma. The SCA is a medieval/renaissance re-enactment organization. We seek to learn about the beauty, chivalry, and learning of our past and to share with others the wonders of medieval Europe. You are invited to join us if you are interested!
Our Baron and Baroness are Master Phelim Gervase and Mistress Myfanwy ferch Eifion.
We study the time period from the later Roman era to A.D. 1600. We span the U.S., but we are an international organization with several chapters overseas. We re-create the fun parts, like feasts, costumes, sword fighting, and tournaments but leave out the parts like plagues and beheadings! Our members also participate in a variety of other historical activities including, but not limited to: Archery, Calligraphy, Brewing, Heraldry, Equestrian, Costuming, Dancing, Cooking, Music, Youth, and Service. For those members that share a particular interest we have Guilds which meet to share knowledge and socialize. Check out the On-Line SCA Demo, then come back and check us out in person.
We meet every Tuesday for Populace in the Park & Fighter Practice, at Patterson Park, off Airport and IH-35. Cecilie de Leycestre is our hospitaler, the officer in charge of hospitality, and may be contacted for more information.
We also enjoy the modern convenience of a baronial email list where those interested can communicate with each other about baronial goings on. It is a fun place to do business, socialize and to keep up with local happenings. You never know who you’ll meet on our mailing list. All you need is an email address.
Would you like to keep up with the goings-on in Bryn Gwlad? There's a monthly calendar on this website, of course, but you can also add us to your Google Calendar. Just type "Bryn Gwlad" and click "Search public calendars" to have our events show up on your own Google Calendar.
